Potential Wetland Restoration at Bridge St. Fairhaven, MA
Back to wetland restoration.Background
Project Overview:
This 12.6 acre site was formerly the Fairhaven Drive-in Theater. Prior to the theater construction in the 1950s, the site was a wetland and wet meadow. Currently the site is being used as an illegal dumping ground for trash and appliances. The Buzzards Bay NEP has proposed restoring the site to its pre-Drive-In theater wetland conditions. The restored wetland will become an urban natural greenway and habitat. It will also be used to help treat stormwater discharging to coastal waters. It is expected that the restored site will become an outdoor nature classroom for students at the Hastings Middle School on the adjoining parcel.
